How to Get League Medals in Clash of Clans

League Medals are one of the most valuable currencies in Clash of Clans — used to purchase exclusive items, Hero Equipment, and resources from the League Shop. But unlike Gold or Elixir, you can't farm them through regular attacks. They come from a specific competitive system, and understanding how that system works makes a real difference in how many you earn each season.

What Are League Medals?

League Medals are a premium in-game currency awarded through Clan War Leagues (CWL) — a monthly competitive event where clans battle other clans of similar strength across a series of war days. They're separate from regular Clan War rewards and can't be earned through Trophy pushing, Builder Base activity, or standard multiplayer raids.

You spend League Medals in the League Shop, which stocks items like:

  • Hero Equipment (including rare and Epic gear)
  • Magic Items (Builder Potions, Research Potions, etc.)
  • Decorations and other cosmetics

The shop rotates its inventory periodically, so what's available changes over time.

How Clan War Leagues Work

CWL runs once per month, typically during the first week. Your clan is placed into a league tier — ranging from Bronze up through Champion and Legend League — based on your clan's previous performance and overall strength.

Over the course of the event, each participating clan member gets a set number of attacks across multiple war days. The clan as a whole competes for stars and destruction percentage, trying to finish as high as possible in their group standings.

At the end of the event:

  • Clans that finish in the top positions earn bonus stars and may promote to a higher league tier
  • Individual members receive League Medals based on their clan's final placement and their own participation

Where League Medals Actually Come From

There are two sources:

1. End-of-Season Placement Rewards

When CWL ends, every eligible member of the participating roster receives a base medal reward. The amount scales directly with:

  • Which league tier your clan competed in — higher tiers award significantly more medals
  • Your clan's finishing position within the group — first place earns more than last place
  • Whether your clan promoted, held, or was relegated — promotion bonuses add extra medals

A clan finishing first in Champion League can earn hundreds of medals per member. A clan finishing last in Bronze League earns a much smaller amount. The gap between tiers is meaningful.

2. Bonus Medals from the Leader/Co-Leaders

After CWL ends, the Clan Leader and Co-Leaders receive a pool of bonus medals to distribute manually among participating members. This is separate from the automatic placement reward.

Leaders typically distribute bonuses based on:

  • Number of attacks used — members who attacked every war day tend to receive more
  • Attack performance — high-star attacks, mirror destruction, or clutch three-stars
  • Clan-specific rules — some clans have formal bonus policies; others are informal

🎯 This means two members in the same clan can walk away with noticeably different totals depending on how they performed and how their leadership distributes bonuses.

Factors That Determine How Many Medals You Earn

Roster Inclusion Matters

Only members placed on the CWL roster by the Leader or Co-Leaders earn medals. If your clan has more than 15 members (the maximum roster size), some members will be left out entirely for that season. Being included consistently — especially in a competitive clan with many active members — isn't guaranteed.

How to Maximize Your League Medals Over Time

A few reliable practices improve your medal earnings across seasons:

  • Stay active during CWL week — use every available attack, as unused attacks are wasted opportunities and can affect your bonus share
  • Attack strategically — targeting bases you can three-star (rather than overreaching) contributes more to clan star totals
  • Communicate with leadership — understanding how your clan distributes bonuses helps you know what's expected
  • Push for higher league tiers — the single biggest lever is which league your clan competes in; even finishing last in a higher tier often earns more than finishing first in a lower one

The Roster and Clan Variable

🏆 One factor that gets overlooked: the clan you're in shapes your medal ceiling. A highly competitive clan in Champion or Legend League earns substantially more medals per season than a casual clan stuck in Silver. But higher-tier clans also expect more from members — more strategic attacks, better base development, and consistent availability.

Some players join CWL-focused clans specifically to maximize medal income, treating it almost like a monthly farming rotation. Others prioritize a relaxed environment and accept lower medal totals as a trade-off.

Where that balance lands for any individual player — based on Town Hall level, time availability, how competitively they approach the game, and what they want from the League Shop — isn't something the mechanics alone can answer.
