How to Get League Medals in Clash of Clans (and What Affects Your Progress)

League medals are one of the most sought-after currencies in Clash of Clans, used to purchase exclusive items from the League Shop — including Magic Items, Builder Potions, and Hero Equipment. But earning them consistently requires more than just showing up to war. Understanding how the medal system works, and what variables shape your individual haul, makes a real difference in how efficiently you can stock up.

What Are League Medals?

League Medals are a special in-game currency earned primarily through Clan War League (CWL) — a weekly competitive event held at the start of each month. Unlike regular war loot, medals aren't tied to destruction percentages or direct wins. They're distributed based on your clan's final placement in CWL and your individual participation during the event.

They can also be earned in smaller quantities through Legend League play, which operates on a separate daily attack system for Town Hall 16 (and high-level TH15) players.

The Main Ways to Earn League Medals

1. Clan War League (CWL)

This is the primary source for most players. Here's how the system works:

  • CWL runs one week per month, typically the first week.
  • Your clan is placed into one of eight leagues: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Master, Champion, Titan, and Legend.
  • Over seven days, your clan fights seven wars. Each player gets one attack per war day.
  • At the end of the week, your clan's final standing (1st through 8th) determines the medal pool.
  • The Clan Leader or Co-Leaders distribute medals to participating members based on a bonus system.

🏅 Two components make up your total:

ComponentWhat It's Based On
Base MedalsGuaranteed for participating, regardless of outcome
Bonus MedalsAwarded based on clan's final rank in CWL

The higher your clan finishes, the larger the bonus pool — and Co-Leaders decide how that bonus is split among members.

2. Legend League

Players who reach Legend League (typically requiring a high trophy count at Town Hall 15–16) earn medals through daily attacks in a separate bracket. This system runs continuously, not just during CWL week, making it a secondary but ongoing source for competitive high-level players.

Factors That Affect How Many Medals You Earn

This is where individual outcomes diverge significantly.

Your Clan's League Tier

A clan competing in Champion or Titan League earns dramatically more medals than one in Bronze or Silver. The medal pool scales with league tier, meaning the ceiling for your monthly haul is partly determined by where your clan sits competitively — which is itself a function of collective Town Hall levels, war weights, and attack strategies.

Participation Rate During CWL Week

You only earn medals for wars you actively participate in. Missing attack days lowers your personal base medals. Some clans also factor participation into how bonus medals are split — players who attacked every day and performed well often receive larger bonuses at leadership discretion.

Leadership Decisions on Bonus Distribution

There's no automatic formula for bonus medals. Clan leadership decides how to distribute the bonus pool. Some clans split it equally; others weight it toward top attackers or most consistent participants. If you're in a clan where leadership decisions are opaque or inconsistent, your medal income may vary month to month even if your performance doesn't.

Town Hall Level and Roster Placement

In CWL, not every clan member gets a roster spot every war. Clans with more members than slots may rotate players. If you're opted in but not placed in the active war roster for several days, your medal earnings drop. Higher Town Hall players are typically prioritized for roster placement because of their war weight value.

The Legend League Variable

For players in Legend League, medals accumulate through daily attack rounds rather than a single monthly event. The number you earn scales with your end-of-season trophy ranking. This path is only viable for players who've built accounts capable of competing at that level — it's a consistent but narrow lane available to a small portion of the player base.

What the League Shop Offers

Knowing what medals buy helps clarify whether accelerating your income matters for your goals. Common shop items include:

  • Builder Potion — speeds up builders significantly
  • Research Potion — temporarily boosts lab speed
  • Hero Equipment — gear for specific Heroes (availability rotates)
  • Magic Items — Books of Heroes, Fighting, Building, and more

The value you get from medals depends heavily on which items you're targeting and how frequently you can purchase them before they rotate.

Where Individual Situations Diverge

Two players at the same Town Hall level, in different clans, attacking with similar skill, can end up with very different monthly medal totals. One might be in a Titan League clan with engaged leadership and a fair distribution policy. The other might be in a Crystal League clan where they miss roster spots two out of seven war days.

The variables — clan tier, leadership structure, roster size, participation consistency, and whether you're pursuing Legend League — interact differently for every player. Understanding the system is the first step; how it plays out month to month comes down to your specific clan environment and playstyle.
