How to Get League Medals in Clash of Clans
League Medals are one of the most valuable currencies in Clash of Clans — and unlike Gold or Elixir, you can't farm them from raids. They're earned through specific competitive modes, and understanding exactly how the system works can make a real difference in how many you collect each season.
What Are League Medals?
League Medals are a special currency used to purchase items from the League Shop, including Books of Heroes, Books of Fighting, Builder Potions, Power Potions, and Wall Rings. Because these items would otherwise cost Gems or take significant grinding to obtain, League Medals are considered premium rewards worth pursuing deliberately.
They are not tied to your regular trophy count or standard multiplayer ranking. Instead, they come from two specific game modes: Clan War Leagues (CWL) and Legend League.
Method 1: Clan War Leagues (CWL)
This is the primary source of League Medals for most players.
How CWL Works
Clan War Leagues run during the first week of each month. Your clan is placed into a league tier based on past performance, and you compete in a round-robin style war against seven other clans over seven days.
Each participating clan member who is rostered for CWL earns medals at the end of the event — regardless of whether they personally attacked. However, the amount you receive depends on two key factors:
- Your clan's final placement (1st through 8th)
- Your clan's current league tier
League Medal Breakdown by Placement and Tier
| League Tier | 1st Place | 2nd Place | 3rd–4th | 5th–8th |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze I–III | 25–35 | 20–28 | 15–22 | 10–15 |
| Silver I–III | 35–55 | 28–45 | 22–35 | 15–22 |
| Gold I–III | 55–80 | 45–65 | 35–50 | 22–35 |
| Crystal I–III | 80–110 | 65–90 | 50–70 | 35–50 |
| Master I–III | 110–155 | 90–130 | 70–100 | 50–75 |
| Champion I–III | 155–210 | 130–175 | 100–135 | 75–100 |
| Titan I–III | 210–270 | 175–225 | 135–175 | 100–130 |
| Legend League | 270–320 | 225–270 | 175–225 | 130–175 |
Note: These figures represent general ranges based on game structure — exact values can shift with balance updates.
The Bonus Attack Factor 🏆
Players who are actively rostered and use their CWL attacks receive a bonus medal reward on top of the base amount. This bonus scales with the number of stars earned during the week. Simply being on the roster but not attacking means you collect the base reward — but missing attacks leaves a meaningful amount of medals on the table.
The maximum bonus for fully participating players can add 20–50+ medals depending on the tier, making active participation a significant multiplier.
Getting Rostered When Your Clan Is Larger Than 15
CWL rosters cap at 15 players, but clans can have 50 members. If your clan is competitive and frequently has more eligible players than roster spots, seniority, Town Hall level, and donation history often determine who gets in. Higher Town Hall players are typically prioritized because they contribute more meaningful attacks in wars.
If you're consistently left off the roster, it's worth communicating with leadership — some clans rotate spots intentionally to give everyone a chance to earn medals across multiple seasons.
Method 2: Legend League
Legend League is the top tier of the regular multiplayer ladder, available only to players who push their trophy count above 5,000 (the threshold to enter).
How Medal Earning Works in Legend League
In Legend League, your performance is evaluated daily rather than continuously. Each day, you get 8 offensive attacks and defend against up to 8 attacks. At the end of each day, your net trophy change is calculated and your position on the global leaderboard updates.
At the end of the season (which aligns with the monthly reset), players earn League Medals based on their final global ranking:
- Top 1,000 players globally receive the largest payouts
- Top 10,000 receive a mid-tier reward
- All other Legend League participants receive a base reward for simply finishing the season in Legend
The gap between top-ranked and general Legend League participants is substantial — players finishing in the global top 100 can earn hundreds of medals, while players who enter but don't actively maintain their position still walk away with a meaningful base amount.
Who Actually Benefits from Legend League? ⚔️
Legend League is genuinely demanding. Staying competitive requires a near-maxed or fully maxed base, strong attack strategies, and daily engagement. For most players below Town Hall 14 or 15 with maxed defenses and heroes, the medal yield from CWL will outpace what they'd realistically earn in Legend League.
Variables That Affect How Many Medals You Earn
Several factors determine your actual monthly medal income:
- Town Hall level — affects which clans will roster you and how high-tier your CWL participation can be
- Hero levels and base strength — directly impacts CWL war performance and Legend League viability
- Clan's league tier — the single biggest lever on CWL medals; clans in higher tiers earn significantly more even for lower placements
- Active participation vs. passive rostering — the difference between full attacks and zero attacks in CWL is measurable
- Consistency — missing a CWL season entirely means zero medals for that month, regardless of your normal activity level
How the Two Systems Stack Up
| Factor | CWL | Legend League |
|---|---|---|
| Availability | Monthly (1 week) | Ongoing |
| TH Requirement | Any (competitive at higher TH) | Effectively TH13+ |
| Effort Required | Moderate (7 attacks/week) | High (daily) |
| Medal Ceiling | High at top tiers | Very high for top-ranked |
| Accessibility | Most players | Competitive minority |
The right approach for maximizing League Medals depends heavily on where your account currently sits — your Town Hall level, hero progress, the clan you're in, and how much time you're willing to invest each month all point toward different priorities.
