What's actually happening: Your phone successfully joined the local network, but that network has no route to the internet. The signal bars and the Wi-Fi icon tell you about the local connection — not whether the router has active internet service beyond it.

  • Router or modem needs a restart — these devices can lose their connection to the ISP without warning. A power cycle (unplug for 30 seconds, plug back in) resolves this more often than any other fix

Sometimes the hardware and network are fine, but software gets in the way.

Network settings cache — Android and iOS both store network configuration data that can become outdated or corrupted.
