How to Clear Your YouTube History (Watch History, Search History & More)
YouTube keeps a detailed record of everything you watch and search — and over time, that history shapes every recommendation you see. Whether you're tidying up your account, resetting your recommendations, or simply protecting your privacy, knowing how to clear your YouTube history is a practical skill that works differently depending on your device, account type, and what exactly you want to remove.
What YouTube Actually Tracks
Before clearing anything, it helps to know what YouTube stores. There are two distinct history types, and they behave differently:
- Watch History — every video you've played while signed in
- Search History — every query you've typed into the YouTube search bar
Both are stored in your Google Account under My Activity, not just locally on your device. This means clearing history from the YouTube app on your phone doesn't automatically clear it from the web — and vice versa, unless you're managing it at the account level.

How to Clear YouTube Search History
