How to Add an Admin to a Facebook Page

Managing a Facebook Page rarely falls to just one person. Whether you're running a business, a community group, or a brand account, there comes a point where you need to bring someone else in to help — and that starts with understanding how Facebook's page roles actually work.

What "Admin" Means on a Facebook Page

On a Facebook Page, roles control what each person can do. The Admin role sits at the top of that hierarchy. An Admin can:

  • Edit the Page and its settings
  • Add, change, or remove other Page roles (including other admins)
  • Create and delete posts
  • Send messages as the Page
  • Manage ads and view Page insights
  • Remove the Page entirely

Because an Admin has full control — including the ability to remove you — this role should only go to people you genuinely trust.

Facebook also offers more limited roles like Editor, Moderator, Advertiser, and Analyst for people who need narrower access. If someone only needs to post content, an Editor role may be more appropriate. If they're only running ads, the Advertiser role covers that without giving them access to sensitive settings.

Before You Start: What You'll Need

A few things need to be in place before you can add someone as an admin:

  • You must already be an Admin of the Page yourself — Editors and Moderators cannot assign roles
  • The person you're adding must have a personal Facebook account
  • It helps (but isn't always required) to know their name or email address associated with their Facebook profile

Facebook's role assignment system works through personal profiles, not standalone business accounts. The person you're adding must be reachable via Facebook's search or through a connected relationship.

How to Add an Admin on a Facebook Page 🖥️

On Desktop (via Facebook.com)

  1. Go to your Facebook Page and make sure you're viewing it as the Page (not your personal profile)
  2. Click Settings in the left-hand sidebar or from the page management menu
  3. Select Page Roles (on classic Pages) or New Pages Experience may show this under Page Access or Settings > Page Setup
  4. Under Assign a New Page Role, type the person's name or email address in the search field
  5. Use the dropdown to select Admin
  6. Click Add and confirm with your Facebook password if prompted

The person will receive a notification and may need to accept the invitation before the role takes effect — depending on whether they already like or follow the Page.

On Mobile (Facebook App)

  1. Open the Facebook app and navigate to your Page
  2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋯) or Settings icon
  3. Look for Page Roles or Manage Permissions — the exact label varies slightly by app version
  4. Tap Add Person to Page
  5. Search for the person by name, select their profile, then choose Admin from the role list
  6. Tap Add to confirm

New Pages Experience vs. Classic Pages

Facebook has been rolling out a New Pages Experience — a redesigned management interface that changes where some settings live. In this version:

  • Role management may appear under Professional Dashboard > Settings > Page Access
  • Admins are listed under Facebook Access with full control
  • Task-based access is an alternative that lets you grant specific capabilities without assigning a formal role

If your Page has already migrated to the New Pages Experience, the menu labels above may not match exactly. The core logic — finding Page settings, locating access or role management, and assigning Admin — remains the same, but the navigation path shifts slightly.

Common Issues When Adding Admins

ProblemLikely Cause
Can't find the person by nameThey may have strict privacy settings; try their email instead
"Add" button is greyed outYou may not have Admin privileges yourself
Person didn't receive notificationCheck their "Other" inbox in Messenger; Facebook notifications can be filtered
Role not showing after assignmentSome role changes take a few minutes to reflect; try refreshing
Person can't see Page management toolsThey may need to accept the role invitation first

The Difference Between Facebook Page Roles and Business Manager Access

If your Page is connected to Meta Business Manager (now called Meta Business Suite), admin access works slightly differently. Business Manager has its own layer of permissions — you can assign people at the Business Manager level and then grant them access to specific Pages, ad accounts, and assets.

In this setup, someone might be a Page Admin within Business Manager but not appear in the traditional Page Roles panel — and vice versa. If your organization uses Business Manager, it's worth understanding which system is actually controlling who can do what on your Page. Mixing both access methods without a clear structure is a common source of confusion when permissions don't behave as expected.

Who Should Actually Have Admin Access

The right answer depends entirely on your situation. A solo creator managing their own brand Page has different needs than a marketing team of ten, a franchise managing dozens of Pages, or a nonprofit with rotating volunteers.

Factors worth thinking through:

  • Trust level — Admin can remove other Admins, including the original creator
  • Technical comfort — Admins have access to settings that, if changed incorrectly, affect the whole Page
  • Turnover risk — If someone leaves, you'll need at least one active Admin to remove their access
  • Page type — A business Page connected to active ad campaigns carries more risk from accidental changes than a simple community Page

For most setups, keeping the Admin role narrow and using more limited roles for day-to-day contributors gives better control. But the right structure depends on how your Page is used, who's involved, and how much operational risk comes with broader access. 🔑
