How to Clear Your YouTube History (Watch History, Search History & More)
YouTube keeps a detailed record of everything you watch and search for — and that record shapes what the algorithm recommends next. Whether you want a clean slate, better recommendations, or more privacy on a shared device, knowing how to clear your YouTube history is straightforward once you understand what "history" actually includes.
What YouTube Tracks (It's More Than One Thing)
Most people think of YouTube history as a single list, but YouTube actually maintains several separate logs:
- Watch history — every video you've played while signed in
- Search history — every term you've typed into the YouTube search bar
- Comments history — comments you've posted (managed separately in YouTube Studio)
- Liked videos — videos you've hearted (also managed separately)
