How to Find Your History on Google: Search, Browser, and Account Activity Explained
Google tracks several different types of history, and knowing which one you're looking for makes all the difference. Your search history, browsing history, YouTube history, and Google account activity are stored in different places — and accessed in different ways depending on your device and account setup.
What "Google History" Actually Means
When people ask how to find their history on Google, they usually mean one of three things:
- Google Search history — the searches you've typed into Google
- Chrome browsing history — the web pages you've visited in the Chrome browser
- Google Account activity — a broader log of your interactions across Google services (Maps, YouTube, Assistant, Shopping, etc.)
These are not the same thing, and they don't live in the same place. Understanding the difference is the first step.
How to Find Your Google Search History
If you're signed into a Google account when you search, your searches are saved to My Activity — Google's central dashboard for account-level data.
To access it:
- Go to myactivity.google.com
- Sign in with your Google account if prompted
- Browse or filter by date, product, or keyword
From the My Activity dashboard, you can search within your history, delete individual items, delete by date range, or turn off future tracking entirely.
You can also reach this from within Google Search itself. On desktop, click your profile icon in the top-right corner of any Google page and look for Manage your Google Account → Data & Privacy → My Activity.

How to Find Your Chrome Browsing History
Chrome browsing history is separate from your Google Search history. It's a record of every URL you visited in the Chrome browser — not just Google searches.
On desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS):
- Press Ctrl + H (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + Y (Mac)
- Or open Chrome, click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right, and select History
On mobile (Android or iOS):
- Tap the three-dot menu in Chrome
- Select History
If you're signed into Chrome with a Google account and sync is enabled, your browsing history syncs across devices and also appears in the My Activity dashboard under the "Chrome" filter. If you're not signed in, your history is stored locally on that device only — it won't appear on other devices and won't show up in My Activity.
How to Find Google Maps, YouTube, and Other Activity 🗺️
Google's My Activity dashboard covers more than just searches. Depending on which Google services you use and which tracking settings are enabled, you may find:

Each category can be toggled on or off independently under Data & Privacy → History settings in your Google account.
Key Variables That Affect What You Can See
Not everyone sees the same thing when they go looking for their history. Several factors shape what's available:
Account sign-in status — If you were signed out of your Google account when searching or browsing, that activity was never sent to Google's servers. It exists (if at all) only in your browser's local history.
Web & App Activity settings — Google only saves search and activity history if Web & App Activity is turned on in your account settings. If it's paused or was never enabled, My Activity will show nothing.
Auto-delete settings — Google allows users to set automatic deletion schedules (3 months, 18 months, 36 months). If yours is set to delete after 3 months, older activity simply won't be there.
Device and sync configuration — Chrome history only syncs to your Google account if Chrome sync is enabled. A device where you're not signed into Chrome operates independently of your Google account history.
Incognito / private browsing — Activity in Incognito mode is never saved to Chrome history or your Google account, by design.
Searching and Filtering Within Your History
Once inside My Activity or Chrome history, both tools offer search and filter options. In My Activity, you can:
- Search by keyword
- Filter by date and time
- Filter by Google product (e.g., show only Maps activity)
In Chrome History, you can search URLs and page titles by keyword. On desktop, the full history page (accessed via Ctrl+H) gives more browsing context than the abbreviated dropdown.
What Happens When You Delete History
Deleting items from My Activity removes them from Google's logs — they won't reappear. Deleting from Chrome history removes them from that browser's local record (and from sync, if sync is active). Neither action is reversible once confirmed.
Google also allows bulk deletion: you can delete all activity from a specific time range or wipe an entire product category. This lives under Delete activity by in the My Activity dashboard.
How useful any of this turns out to be depends heavily on your account configuration, how consistently you've been signed in, and whether activity tracking was enabled to begin with — factors that vary significantly from one setup to the next.
