How to Block a Pop-Up on Chrome (And Why Some Still Get Through)
Pop-ups are one of the most persistent annoyances in everyday browsing. Chrome has built-in tools to block most of them, but the settings aren't always obvious, and certain types of pop-ups behave differently depending on how they're triggered. Understanding how Chrome's pop-up blocking actually works — and where its limits are — helps you get the right level of control for your situation.
How Chrome's Built-In Pop-Up Blocker Works
Chrome blocks pop-ups by default for most websites. When a site tries to open a new window or tab without a direct user action (like clicking a button), Chrome intercepts it and shows a small icon in the address bar instead. You can then choose to allow or ignore it.
