How to Delete Search History on a Samsung Phone

Search history accumulates quietly in the background — browser queries, app searches, keyboard suggestions, even voice commands. On a Samsung phone, that history lives in multiple places at once, which means "clearing your search history" isn't a single tap. Where you need to go depends entirely on which type of history you're trying to remove.

Why Search History Lives in More Than One Place

Samsung phones run One UI on top of Android, and both layers store data independently. A search you run in Google Chrome goes to Chrome's history. A search typed into the Google app goes to your Google account's My Activity. A word you typed gets learned by the Samsung Keyboard. A voice search through Bixby gets logged separately.

Each of these systems has its own storage location and its own deletion process. Clearing one doesn't touch the others.

Clearing History in Samsung Internet Browser 🔍

Samsung's built-in browser keeps a log of every site you've visited and every search you've entered.

To delete it:

1. Open Samsung Internet
2. Tap the Menu icon (three horizontal lines, bottom right)
3. Select History
4. Tap Delete history (top right) to remove all entries, or swipe left on individual items to delete selectively

You can also go to Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data to remove history alongside cookies, cached files, and form data in one pass.

What this clears: URLs visited, search terms entered through the browser's address bar.
What it doesn't clear: Your Google account history, keyboard suggestions, or app-level search logs.

Clearing History in the Google App

If you use the Google Search app or the Google search bar on your home screen, those searches sync to your Google Account — not just to the device itself.

To delete from the device:

3. Go to Search history
4. Tap Delete and choose a time range (Last hour, Last day, All time) or delete individual items

To manage it from any device:

• Go to myactivity.google.com

If your Google account has Web & App Activity turned on, searches continue to be saved after deletion unless you pause that setting or set up auto-delete (options: 3 months, 18 months, 36 months).

Clearing Keyboard Search Suggestions

The Samsung Keyboard and Gboard (Google's keyboard) both learn from what you type. Those learned words and phrases appear as suggestions and can feel like a form of search history.

For Samsung Keyboard:

1. Go to Settings → General Management → Samsung Keyboard settings
2. Tap Reset to default settings
3. Select Erase personalized predictions

For Gboard:

1. Long-press the comma or microphone key → tap Settings
2. Go to Dictionary → Delete learned words and data

This clears typed-word memory, but it also resets any typing personalizations you've built up over time.

Clearing Bixby and Voice Search History

If you use Bixby, your voice commands and queries are stored in Samsung's ecosystem.

To clear Bixby history:

1. Open the Bixby app
2. Tap the three-dot menu → Settings
3. Look for Privacy → Bixby Voice history (exact path varies slightly by One UI version)

For Google Assistant voice searches, those are tied to your Google account's My Activity under the Voice & Audio filter — managed the same way as Google Search history.

App-Specific Search History

Many apps — YouTube, Amazon, Spotify, Instagram — maintain their own internal search history, entirely separate from the browser or keyboard. 🗂️

Each app controls its own data. Some sync that data to a linked account; others store it only on the device.

The Variable That Changes Everything

How thorough you need to be — and how many places you need to visit — depends on your setup:

• Do you use Samsung Internet or Chrome? Different browsers, different histories.
• Are you signed into a Google account? If yes, search data syncs to the cloud and persists across devices until deleted at the account level.
• Do you use Bixby, Google Assistant, or neither? Each voice assistant logs separately.
• Which apps do you search inside most? That determines which app-level histories are building up.
• Are you clearing history for privacy, storage, or troubleshooting? The answer changes which layers actually matter to you.
